California budget invests $1.4 billion to decarbonize homes, schools, and communities

September 6, 2022|

California is making big investments in transitioning homes, buildings, and schools to clean electric appliances – a record $1.4 billion across programs. This tweet by the Building Decarbonization Coalition summarizes how funding will be allocated for this budget.

Decarbonizing Tall Buildings with a New York State of Mind

February 22, 2022|

New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) mandates 100 percent zero-emissions electricity by 2040 and economy-wide carbon neutrality by 2050. That means that billions of square feet of New York buildings have 28 years to wean off the fossil fuel combustion and fossil-fueled steam that heat the majority of the building stock today. For many buildings, that translates to roughly one asset replacement cycle, and buildings that simply replace today’s fossil fuel equipment with newer versions of the same will not be in compliance with Climate Act mandates before the equipment reaches the end of its lifetime. [...]

Building Energy Transition Plan: A Roadmap for Achieving Net-Zero Emissions in the Residential and Commercial Buildings Sectors

September 18, 2021|

This is a report by the Maryland Commission on Climate Change, which is charged with advising the Governor and General Assembly on ways to mitigate the causes of, prepare for, and adapt to the consequences of climate change. This report is meant to guide Maryland policymakers on decisions related to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings in pursuit of achieving targets in Maryland’s 2030 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act Plan and the Commission’s recommendation that Maryland achieve net-zero emissions economywide by 2045.
