ROADMAP TO NAVIGATING FEDERAL FUNDING FOR PUBLIC BUILDINGS

The BlueGreen Alliance | Roadmap to Navigating Federal Funding for Public Buildings is targeted to state and local agencies and other stakeholders interested in upgrading Municipal, University, School and Hospital (MUSH) buildings using federal funding opportunities from BIL and IRA. This highlights programs from Treasury (including direct pay), DOE, EPA and FEMA and includes quick facts summary tables of each.

We also introduce our BGA Better Buildings Approach, which can be summed up in three principles:

1. Better Buildings are Energy Efficient, Healthy, Climate Resilient
2. Better Building Projects are Designed with Equity and High-Road Labor Standards
3. Better Building Materials are Healthy, Made in America, and Low-carbon

The roadmap also includes examples of how to stack funding, a few retrofit case studies and tools for identifying disadvantaged communities.

We hope the MUSH buildings roadmap (and blog) will be a resource to orient stakeholders to all the BIL and Inflation Reduction Act federal funding available and will be a starting point on the road to better buildings!
