The goal of this project is to find a Maryland-specific pathway to achieve deep decarbonization of building end-uses by mid-century. This study investigates opportunities for building decarbonization through 3 scenarios: High Electrification scenario, Electrification with Fuel Backup scenario, and High Decarbonization Methane scenario.

There are two key questions of this project:

  1. What are the potential pathways to achieve deep decarbonization of Maryland’s building stock by mid-century?
  2. What are the costs and benefits of each pathway from a total system cost perspective, as well as impacts on consumers?
