The Media Pulse is an easy way to track coverage of building electrification and decarbonization in the media. We created custom Google News searches to distill relevant news and archive the story titles, publishers, and links as they hit the web. We update Media Pulse daily so you’ll always have your finger on the pulse. To read more about our methodology click here.
Methodology
We have designed a tailored Google News RSS feed using combinations of keywords related to building decarbonization for our Media Pulse Dashboard. Any news story matching our search parameters is logged with its title, description, publisher, and link. Keywords used to build our RSS feed include buildings, energy, efficiency, emissions, rebate, tax credit, jobs, and economy. Additional terms used include natural gas ban, all electric building, heat pump, building electrification, and building decarbonization.
Next, irrelevant or non-reputable news stories are removed by checking the publisher against a predetermined list of publishers. This list is constantly updated to keep only the most relevant and reputable news stories on Media Pulse.
Finally, stories are categorized by matching keywords in their title to our “tags.” For example, any story that mentions “Code,” “IECC,” or “ASHRAE” in the title is categorized under the Building Codes tag. Stories may be categorized under more than one tag if their title matches keywords from multiple tags.
