Go Go, Stop Stop! Charging up and curtailing HPWHs to minimize costs and maximize clean energy uptake

With their ability to use energy flexibly and act as small thermal batteries, heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) can “charge” during off-peak times with cheaper, cleaner electricity – doing so saves homeowners money and reduces grid congestion and emissions.
