SUMMARY:Enabling faster installations Part II: Barnett & NBI
DESCRIPTION:Barnett Plumbing will share how they overcame barriers to heat pump adoption with their gas loaner program\, delivering the immediate need for hot water with a temporary gas loaner water heater until the right electrical work could be completed in the home to install a heat pump water heater. Visit our website to learn more about the Barnett Plumbing Quick Start Grant. \nNext\, New Buildings Institute (NBI) will discuss lessons learned with some of the newest technology on the market – 120-volt plug-in heat pump water heater. This lower voltage technology used in residential spaces could solve a big barrier to adoption because this technology can plug into an existing wall plug. Visit our website to learn more about the NBI Quick Start Grant.

SUMMARY:Climate Art Workshop with Nicole Kelner: Envisioning the Future of the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, co-hosted by Urban Land Institute and New Buildings Institute\, climate artist Nicole Kelner will lead participants in an engaging workshop around envisioning the future of the built environment through your preferred art medium. This session will involve art prompts\, breakout rooms to meet other attendees and share ideas\, as well as focus time to create your masterpiece. Be prepared with your own art materials and come ready to engage with others and get your creative juices flowing! \nPlease note that this meeting is limited to 100 attendees. If you’re not able to join us at this time or we reach capacity\, we will record this workshop and share it with all registrants afterwards. \nThis event is part of the Net Zero Buildings Week #Decarb4Good campaign – learn more at https://netzerobuildingsweek.org/ and be sure to share your creations on social media using hashtag #Decarb4Good. \nLearn more about Nicole Kelner and her work: https://nicolekelner.com/

SUMMARY:2023 Getting to Zero Forum
DESCRIPTION:The Getting to Zero Forum is the premier event dedicated to zero energy and zero carbon buildings. With a growing number of climate emergencies across the United States and around the world\, there is no more important time than now for the Getting to Zero Forum. It brings together the world’s leading experts to share best practice approaches to reducing energy demand and decarbonization related to policy\, program and projects. It is the only event with a broad cross-section of stakeholders focused on ambitious building efficiency goals and is an ideal venue for organizing both the policy and building communities to achieve zero carbon ambitions. The Forum will be live in Minneapolis and virtual.

SUMMARY:Existing Building Decarbonization Code: The Gamechanger We Need Right Now in the Climate Fight
DESCRIPTION:The vast majority of buildings that we will use in the coming decades are already built and account for roughly 39% of the carbon footprint as well as other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We cannot address our climate crisis without tackling improved efficiency and electrification of existing buildings. But how? This session will feature presenters who are advancing codes and policies that will effectively decarbonize existing buildings and bring us the scale we seek. New Buildings Institute will share a new resource\, the recently released Existing Buildings Decarbonization Code\, to help jurisdictions set clear and approachable pathways to cut carbon emissions through existing building codes. This tool presents language that acts as an overlay to the 2021 International Efficiency Conservation Code (IECC) and details the measures needed for cutting emissions from the current building stock. A representative from the City and County of Denver will present examples of decarbonization policies at a jurisdictional scale including the use of building performance standards and zero energy policies.
