SUMMARY:"Net Zero” for Local Governments: Braiding Technologies to Deliver Efficient\, Renewable Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Many are familiar with the concept of braiding complementary funding sources to achieve local clean energy projects. This webinar will extend the metaphor to the physical realm: That is\, braiding various “net zero” building technologies—envelope upgrades\, heat pumps\, on-site renewable electricity and storage\, and EV charging—to achieve integrated\, high-performance buildings. Learn about strategies to holistically improve the energy efficiency of local government buildings to reduce carbon\, improve the health and safety of occupants\, AND save your community money by significantly reducing monthly utility bills. \nExperts from skilled trade associations will explain how the integrated “net zero” approach to renovations and new construction projects can work for local governments\, offering advice on getting started and engaging with relevant skilled trades professionals in your region. They will also share how you can turn this approach into persuasive funding proposals that will make these projects even bigger financial winners for your community.

SUMMARY:Leveraging Federal Dollars with Michigan’s State Energy Financing Institutions (SEFI)
DESCRIPTION:The Michigan Department of Environment\, Great Lakes\, and Energy and Michigan Economic Development Corporation will be expanding upon Governor Whitmer’s announcement at the MI Healthy Climate Conference (https://www.michigan.gov/egle/newsroom/press-releases/2024/05/17/sefi). \nThis SEFI determination calls for large-scale clean energy technology projects to launch in Michigan and encourages economic development for new and existing organizations in Michigan while accelerating progress toward Michigan’s goal of reaching 100% carbon neutrality by 2050. Hans Riemer from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Loan Programs Office will join to provide an overview of the SEFI program. \nPublic and private entities managing large-scale decarbonization projects (of at least $100 million\, which can be an aggregation of smaller projects) should tune in to this webinar to hear from both of Michigan’s SEFIs and the DOE LPO about how SEFI support for your project can help open up new federal financing streams. \nAfter registering\, you will receive an email from “EGLE Outreach” with a link for you to use to join the webinar. Individuals needing language assistance or accommodations for effective participation should contact Joel Roseberry roseberryj@michigan.gov by June 6 to request language\, mobility\, visual\, hearing\, translation\, and/or other assistance.

SUMMARY:Leveraging federal Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) funds for implementing the MI Healthy Climate Plan
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program provides states\, local governments\, and tribal nations flexible resources to plan for and pursue ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution reductions to achieve three broad objectives:\n1. Tackle damaging climate pollution while supporting the creation of good jobs and lowering energy costs for families;\n2. Accelerate work to address environmental injustices and empower community-driven solutions in overburdened neighborhoods; and\,\n3. Deliver cleaner air by reducing harmful pollution in places where people live\, work\, play\, and go to school. \nAttend this webinar to hear how the state of Michigan is using the $3 million planning grant to accelerate the implementation of the MI Healthy Climate Plan and provide a strong framework for pursuing corresponding upcoming competitive funding from the EPA. We will discuss the general purpose of the grant\, our proposed approach to public and stakeholder engagement\, grant timeline\, future funding opportunities\, and other grant deliverables.

SUMMARY:MI Healthy Climate Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Michigan Department of Environment\, Great Lakes\, and Energy will host the first MI Healthy Climate Conference on April 11-12\, 2023\, at the Huntington Place in Detroit\, MI. \nMichigan faces real and costly impacts from climate change. But climate action also presents opportunities to improve health outcomes\, advance justice\, and grow Michigan’s economy. Governor Whitmer committed Michigan to carbon neutrality by 2050 and in April 2022 released the MI Healthy Climate Plan to chart Michigan’s path forward. Hundreds of Michiganders contributed thousands of hours of research\, reflection\, and conversation to create a plan that will protect our public health and the environment and help develop new clean energy jobs. \nIt will take concerted effort from all Michiganders to realize the Plan. Fortunately\, our communities\, businesses\, and institutions have already stepped up and created strong momentum for us to build upon. This two-day conference will bring together and mobilize engaged stakeholders\, community and business leaders\, advocates\, and other partners around implementing the key action items in the MI Healthy Climate Plan. Take this time to connect and help catalyze Michigan’s plan to action! \nGeneral Admission: $125 \nNon-profit/Student/Government Admission: $75 \nRegistration Deadline: March 31\, 2023

SUMMARY:Catalyst Communities Webinar - Fundamentals of Energy Savings Performance Contracting in Michigan
DESCRIPTION:Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC) offers states\, localities\, public infrastructure\, and institutional facilities an opportunity to finance energy efficiency investments by leveraging the energy\, water and operational cost savings that projects achieve over time. While ESPC projects have already financed over $50 billion in energy-saving investments\, estimates by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory show there could be over $300 billion in additional cost-effective ESPC projects nationally. Facilities such as state and municipal buildings\, universities\, K-12 schools\, and hospitals\, as well as highway\, street\, and parking lot lighting are particularly well suited to these investments. This webinar will gather key stakeholders for ESPC projects throughout Michigan with a particular emphasis on reaching underserved communities\, provide an overview of how to apply this financing mechanism in Michigan\, and hear from facility managers who have implemented these projects.
