SUMMARY:Less is More: Building to Zero Energy\, Water\, and Carbon
DESCRIPTION:Recurring droughts and fires\, severe weather stressing electric grids\, and fluctuations in the natural gas market have communities and individuals increasingly seeking out solutions to create more resilient homes and businesses. Buildings that are energy\, carbon\, and water neutral have often been considered out of reach\, but with new technologies and increasing energy and water prices\, they are more attainable than ever. This session will explore the current state of “zero” and identify the challenges holding us back and opportunities\, such as energy codes\, pushing us forward.

SUMMARY:TECH Clean California 5th Quarterly Stakeholder Meeting
DESCRIPTION:TECH Clean California is a statewide initiative designed to accelerate the adoption of clean space and water heating technology across California homes. The initiative provides market incentives and workforce education and training to make it easier and cost-competitive for contractors to sell and install heat pump technology for residential replacement projects. TECH Clean California supports existing programs through matched incentive funding\, and extends incentives statewide with an emphasis on access for low-income and disadvantaged communities\, to help meet California’s goal of being carbon-neutral by 2045. Hear what is happening with TECH Clean California and learn how you can take part in the initiative at Energy Solution’s fifth quarterly Stakeholder Meeting.

SUMMARY:Existing Building Decarbonization Code: The Gamechanger We Need Right Now in the Climate Fight
DESCRIPTION:The vast majority of buildings that we will use in the coming decades are already built and account for roughly 39% of the carbon footprint as well as other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We cannot address our climate crisis without tackling improved efficiency and electrification of existing buildings. But how? This session will feature presenters who are advancing codes and policies that will effectively decarbonize existing buildings and bring us the scale we seek. New Buildings Institute will share a new resource\, the recently released Existing Buildings Decarbonization Code\, to help jurisdictions set clear and approachable pathways to cut carbon emissions through existing building codes. This tool presents language that acts as an overlay to the 2021 International Efficiency Conservation Code (IECC) and details the measures needed for cutting emissions from the current building stock. A representative from the City and County of Denver will present examples of decarbonization policies at a jurisdictional scale including the use of building performance standards and zero energy policies.

SUMMARY:Cracking the Code: Unlocking the Benefits of Off-site Construction
DESCRIPTION:Industrialized construction practices\, such as off-site manufacturing\, have demonstrated an ability to reduce build times\, lower costs\, improve quality and performance\, reduce environmental impact\, create safer working environments\, and increase overall construction productivity. Although this practice is far from new\, challenges persist around code fragmentation\, state and local inspections\, and general education. In this session\, we will hear about how DOE is supporting this practice through the Advanced Building Construction Initiative\, the development of new off-site construction standards\, and how manufacturers are finding creative ways to streamline code compliance.
