SUMMARY:Launching a Power Sector Competitiveness Dashboard for the Southeast U.S.
DESCRIPTION:Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Energy\, Environment & Sustainability will launch a new Southeast Power Sector Competitiveness Dashboard on December 11. During this webinar\, Duke experts will discuss the dashboard’s purpose\, compare regional competitiveness metrics across states in the Southeast U.S.\, introduce the resource’s interactive features and information through a live demonstration\, and provide time for questions. \nThe Dashboard assembles key metrics on an array of policies and practices that influence how utilities\, regulators\, producers\, and consumers interact. This includes the extent to which state policies\, regulatory structures\, and market arrangements create conditions that advance consumer choice\, support distributed generation\, promote multi-actor participation\, and enable sharing of regional resources\, to name a few. \nThe Dashboard covers Alabama\, Arkansas\, Florida\, Georgia\, Kentucky\, Louisiana\, Mississippi\, North Carolina\, South Carolina\, Tennessee\, Virginia\, and West Virginia. \nThis project is led by Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Energy\, Environment & Sustainability. This project is supported by the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and is produced in concert with complementary work being led by WRI.

SUMMARY:Weatherization Readiness: Home Repairs That Save Energy and Lower Costs
DESCRIPTION:According to a nationally representative survey\, the Weatherization Assistance Program initially deferred 19% of audited homes in 2023 due to repair issues. If repaired\, these homes could benefit from significant energy savings\, improve residents’ health\, and lower utility bills. \nJoin us for a webinar exploring the exciting and important work of weatherization readiness. Attendees will hear the results of a new ACEEE survey and analysis\, as well as a discussion on potential energy savings and repair strategies for delivering energy efficiency benefits to income-eligible households. We will also highlight key challenges facing weatherization programs\, using New York’s Green Affordable Pre-Electrification Fund as a case study.

SUMMARY:Introduction to the Multistate Action Plan
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, nine states signed the Multistate Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to Accelerate the Transition to Zero-Emission Residential Buildings. Citing the need to reduce climate and air pollution\, the MOU set a target for zero-emission heat pumps to make up 65% of the collective MOU state space and water heating market by 2030\, and 90% by 2040. Those states have since been joined by Washington\, DC\, and Washington state.\n\nThis webinar will provide an overview of the Multistate Action Plan to Accelerate the Transition to Zero-Emission Residential Buildings. Released in September\, the Action Plan provides over 50 recommendations to help states improve access to affordable clean heat. Participants will learn about the recommendations and hear directly from states on how they are working to advance zero-emission residential buildings. Speakers include Emily Levin\, Director of Policy and Programs at NESCAUM\, Liz Reichart\, Deputy Director of Building Decarbonization at the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources\, and Emily Salzberg\, Managing Director for Clean Buildings at the Washington Department of Commerce.

SUMMARY:Power and Production: Keeping Electricity Prices Down and the U.S. Economy Running
DESCRIPTION:On November 4th\, Join the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace\, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions\, and the Georgia Tech Strategic Energy Institute for a panel discussion on Power and Production: Keeping Electricity Prices Down and the U.S. Economy Running. This 45 minute panel discussion will be followed by audience Q&A and a reception. \nFor two decades\, power demand in the US was essentially flat. It is now growing quickly again\, as the country builds AI data centers\, switches to EVs and electric heaters\, seeks to revive domestic manufacturing\, and turns up the AC to keep cool as temperatures rise. \nHow can the United States keep the AC running\, the lights on\, and the prices down? What is the proper role for renewables and storage–the fastest growing energy sources in the country–at a time when the supply chain for gas power is snarled and blocked? And finally\, how can we ensure a domestic\, secure\, resilient supply chain to produce all of these energy solutions here in the United States? \nSpeakers for the event include: \n\n\nNoah Gordon\, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace \n\n\nLeonardo Martinez-Diaz\, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace \n\n\nChristine Conwell\, Georgia Tech Strategic Energy Institute \n\n\nStephanie Gagnon-Rodriguez\, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions \n\n\nAdditional speakers will include community and business representatives.

SUMMARY:HEW2025
DESCRIPTION:States in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic have committed to widespread adoption of highly efficient heat pumps by 2030. These aggressive goals aim to stabilize energy costs\, improve health\, and cut climate pollution amid extreme weather challenges by adopting heat pumps for most heating\, cooling\, and water heating needs. \nJoin us at HEW2025 to explore emerging strategies to scale the adoption of highly-efficient heat pumps\, creating regional opportunities for market transformation. Our workshop sessions will explore topics important to growing the residential and commercial heat pump markets\, including technology advancements\, leading-edge equitable program and policy design\, key insights “from the field”\, marketing strategies\, and workforce development. \nWe are kicking off HEW2025 with a Day Zero welcome reception\, followed by small group dinners at Princeton restaurants – an opportunity to connect with fellow attendees and NEEP staff. From there the program moves into one and a half days of interactive sessions\, wellness opportunities\, plenaries\, and time with our regional colleagues. \nWhether you’re shaping policy\, designing programs\, building products\, or working in the field\, HEW2025 will equip you with the tools\, insights\, and relationships to collaborate to scale.

SUMMARY:Right-Sizing Water Distribution Pipes and Water Heating Systems to Save Energy and Reduce Building Costs
DESCRIPTION:This CARD webinar will review results from 2050 Partners’ study which validates an alternative pipe sizing method\, the Uniform Plumbing Code Appendix M “Peak Water Demand Calculator” (WDC)\, based on findings from four residential multifamily buildings in Minnesota. Currently adopted and available to use in other jurisdictions’ plumbing codes\, discover how this field study starts to shed light on the potential benefits of right-sizing piping in Minnesota multifamily buildings and resulting energy efficiency and construction cost reductions. \nAs Minnesota advances its efforts to decarbonize water heating – primarily through increased adoption of heat pump water heaters – this webinar will also share insights on how right-sizing piping can support right-sizing water heating systems in an effort to further reduce costs and improve efficiency. Last\, learn about how this work can support and inform ECO programs in Minnesota.

SUMMARY:2025 Energy Efficiency as a Resource
DESCRIPTION:The 13th biennial Energy Efficiency as a Resource conference will focus on policies and programs to reduce energy waste as we build the utility system of the future. This event will explore how efficiency efforts can expand and evolve to help utilities and policymakers overcome the challenge of rapid electric load growth while maintaining power reliability and customer affordability. The conference will provide a unique opportunity to interact with the key players in the utility energy efficiency arena. \nIn addition\, ACEEE has collaborated with IEPEC to kickstart the week with its evaluation conference at the same venue as EER. These back-to-back events will provide the opportunity for broader networking and gathering of information from more experts in the field. IEPEC’s event will be held from Monday\, October 6 through Wednesday\, October 8\, overlapping with the start of the EER conference on Tuesday\, October 7.  The EER conference will wrap up on Thursday\, October 9. \nDiscount registrations will be offered to attendees who want to participate in both events.  More information to come in summer 2025!
