SUMMARY:2022 International Symposium on Energy Efficiency VIRTUAL
DESCRIPTION:In April\, ACEEE will host a half-day virtual symposium to spotlight global leaders in energy efficiency\, with a particular focus on opportunities for improvement in the United States. The virtual format\, with recordings of all sessions online\, and the no-cost registration will make it easy for people from all countries to attend. \nAt this event\, we will release our 2022 International Scorecard\, which examines the energy efficiency policies and performance of the world’s top-25 energy-consuming countries. The scorecard evaluates countries based on 36 metrics and shows how all can substantially reduce energy use and emissions.

SUMMARY:Measuring Savings Persistence: Can You Handle the Truth?
DESCRIPTION:Techniques for measuring savings persistence are rapidly evolving\, but measure lives remain unchanged. How has deployment of AMI data changed the way we evaluate persistence\, and its impact on the relationship between utilities and their business customers? Join moderator Eliot Crowe (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) and panelists Phil Degens (Energy Trust of Oregon)\, Faith DeBolt (SBW Consulting Inc.)\, Todd Amundson (Bonneville Power Administration) and Anna Kelly (Power TakeOff) in a discussion evaluating challenges utilities\, regulators and evaluators face towards savings persistence and potential for change.

SUMMARY:2022 Hot Water Forum
DESCRIPTION:As climate efforts intensify\, the 14th Hot Water Forum will offer a singular look at how water systems can not only save money but also reduce harmful pathogens and building greenhouse gas emissions. \nThe forum comes at a critical — and promising — time. The emergence of new water heating technologies and the Biden administration’s emphasis on workforce development and building decarbonization are driving fresh opportunities for the hot water industry to meet challenges of greenhouse gas reduction\, grid resilience\, and equity. \nACEEE’s Hot Water Forum is the only national conference focused exclusively on water heating\, the second largest use of energy in residential and multifamily homes. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with industry leaders\, advocates\, startups\, and other stakeholders as this tight-knit community reconvenes in-person for the first time since 2019.

SUMMARY:Unearthing potential: The value of geothermal energy to US decarbonization
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to join the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center for a panel about the value of US geothermal energy to decarbonization on Friday\, March 18th\, from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM EST. This public\, virtual event will convene key stakeholders to discuss opportunities for geothermal energy to play a significant role in US emissions reductions\, as well as avenues for the US government to assist in the sector’s growth. \nAchieving US climate goals requires the development and widespread deployment of all available clean energy solutions. Geothermal energy\, while currently only a marginal component of the US energy economy\, can contribute significantly to the climate action effort. It has the potential to support deep decarbonization through clean baseload generation\, efficient heating and cooling\, lithium co-production\, and a host of other applications. \nHowever\, current policy towards geothermal energy has\, thus far\, prevented the emergence of a vibrant market that would stimulate sector growth. To realize the potential of geothermal energy\, public- and private-sector leaders must support policies that encourage geothermal industries and address regulatory\, technical\, and economic barriers.

SUMMARY:2022 Climate-Forward Efficiency Symposium
DESCRIPTION:As states and utilities set ambitious decarbonization goals\, the case for leveraging demand-side measures to reduce emissions is stronger than ever. The ways in which utility energy efficiency programs are designed\, operated\, and evaluated must evolve to ensure they are on track to achieve an affordable and equitable clean energy future. This symposium will explore the wide range of strategies we have at our disposal and share leading examples where climate-forward actions are being taken today. \nParticipants will learn from and engage with experts from across the United States that have successfully approached the nexus of energy efficiency programs and decarbonization. Attendees will also gain crucial insights from ACEEE’s newest report\, A Roadmap for Climate-Forward Efficiency\, which introduces multiple strategies to accelerate climate-forward efficiency through legislative\, regulatory\, and utility actions. Informed by an extensive stakeholder engagement process\, these strategies are rooted in demonstrable best-practices and can be adapted across geographies. \nThis symposium will reconvene in early March with a small number of working sessions to plot a practical course forward for climate-forward efficiency across the country. During the registration process for this Day 1 event\, you are invited to indicate which issue-specific sessions you would most like to see hosted next month.

SUMMARY:Innovative Partnerships: Collaborating for Community Decarbonization
DESCRIPTION:Complex issues require collaborative solutions. The third and final session in NEEP’s Low-Carbon Retrofit Solutions webinar series will provide examples of innovative and equitable solutions for community decarbonization. Leaders in Pennsylvania\, Vermont\, and North Carolina are working to address these issues by facilitating intake processes for safety and efficiency upgrades through collaborative partnerships. Weatherizing a home offers various benefits but is often times hindered by existing health and safety issues like asbestos\, mold\, and lead. This is especially true in older housing stock where safety issues must be addressed before efficiency improvements can be made. By leveraging partnerships around a continued commitment to advance the interconnection of health\, homes\, and energy\, these issues can be addressed and lead to a more equitable and inclusive future. \nRegister for the event here

SUMMARY:The Future of Gas Utilities
DESCRIPTION:The Brattle Group will host a two-day virtual symposium\, “The Future of Gas Utilities\,” which will explore the role natural gas utilities can play in the transition to a decarbonized future. \nThe natural gas utility industry is facing increased uncertainty and risk in the current environment of decarbonizing the energy sector. With approximately $150–180 billion of unrecovered gas distribution infrastructure at risk\, gas utilities will need to organize and become proactive and innovative participants in a clean energy transition. \nDrawing from the topics covered in Brattle’s Future of Gas Utilities Series\, the symposium will feature experts from across the US. They will explore the risks and opportunities facing natural gas utilities\, examine strategies to navigate the transition\, and discuss the implementation of regulatory pathways and changes to the traditional business model.

SUMMARY:Heating Electrification Workshop 2021
DESCRIPTION:Join NEEP\, program administrators\, manufacturers\, policy makers\, installers\, and other stakeholders for a heating electrification market transformation workshop October 27-28. This workshop will explore approaches for electrifying the heating and cooling sector while guaranteeing quality and comfort for occupants. Panelists will speak to their experience with various system applications and discuss recent advancements in air source heat pumps (ASHPs)\, packaged terminal heat pumps (PHTPs)\, variable refrigerant flow systems (VRFs)\, and other clean heating technologies. \nAs state actors continue to see the difficulty in reaching GHG reduction targets without decarbonizing the building sector\, more focus is turning towards the potential of heat pumps. They are an efficient way to heat and cool homes and buildings\, save on operating costs\, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These technologies have been proven to help achieve clean energy goals and provide customers reliable\, year-round comfort. \nVirtual and interactive discussions will provide a collaborative setting to talk about driving increased consumer confidence\, explore technology advancements\, share lessons learned\, and understand the current policy framework.
