SUMMARY:Bringing Energy Efficiency to Underserved Households: Examples to Emulate
DESCRIPTION:Energy efficiency can produce numerous economic\, health\, and environmental benefits\, but most utility and third-party programs do not adequately serve the households that would stand to gain the most\, such as renters and low-income households. \nJoin us to learn about a new ACEEE toolkit highlighting best practices for increasing program participation among underserved residential customers. We will discuss strategies for programs to better reach all underserved households as well as specific strategies for reaching renters\, income-eligible households\, and rural households. Attendees will also hear from guest speakers who have successfully incorporated many of the strategies into their programs.

SUMMARY:Buildings Hub Live: Home Electrification Rebate Programs
DESCRIPTION:Atlas Public Policy is hosting its tenth episode of “Buildings Hub Live\,” where we spotlight the changemakers and technologies leading the charge to electrify our built environment. Join us Tuesday\, October 24 at 1 pm EST for a discussion on the federal home electrification rebates as we chat with Karen Zelmar from the U.S. Department of Energy. \nThe Inflation Reduction Act appropriated billions to electrify buildings\, with a particular focus on low-income communities. This critical injection of funding will support efficiency gains for residential buildings\, across all demographics: single and multifamily homes\, mobile homes\, and renters in an all-of-the-above historic effort. \nWhat can we expect from this program? What is expected and required of states in the funding process\, and how is funding disbursed? How does the average consumer apply to and take advantage of this program? RSVP today to find out!

SUMMARY:Energy Efficiency as a Resource Conference
DESCRIPTION:Utility energy efficiency programs have a strong record of saving customers energy and money. But today’s urgent challenges—from climate change to inequitable energy burdens—demand that we ramp up these efficiency efforts and reimagine what these programs are capable of\, building on the strong foundations in place. \nJoin us at the Energy Efficiency as Resource (EER) conference in Philadelphia\, October 16–18\, 2023\, to explore how efficiency efforts can expand and evolve amid a transforming utility industry. Back in person in 2023 for the first time following 2021’s online event\, EER is the premier U.S. conference on policies and programs to reduce utility customers’ energy waste and help utilities meet climate goals and infrastructure challenges. Together we’ll strategize about using innovative technologies and policies to enable efficiency programs that deliver greater greenhouse gas reductions\, improve bill affordability and health for low-income customers\, and embrace more electrified and grid-interactive equipment in our homes and buildings. \nThe EER conference will bring together a large\, diverse group of the nation’s leading players in the utility energy efficiency arena\, including attendees from utilities and program administrators\, regulatory commissions\, state government\, consultants\, manufacturers\, environmental organizations\, consumer groups\, and research institutions.

SUMMARY:Leveraging federal Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) funds for implementing the MI Healthy Climate Plan
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program provides states\, local governments\, and tribal nations flexible resources to plan for and pursue ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution reductions to achieve three broad objectives:\n1. Tackle damaging climate pollution while supporting the creation of good jobs and lowering energy costs for families;\n2. Accelerate work to address environmental injustices and empower community-driven solutions in overburdened neighborhoods; and\,\n3. Deliver cleaner air by reducing harmful pollution in places where people live\, work\, play\, and go to school. \nAttend this webinar to hear how the state of Michigan is using the $3 million planning grant to accelerate the implementation of the MI Healthy Climate Plan and provide a strong framework for pursuing corresponding upcoming competitive funding from the EPA. We will discuss the general purpose of the grant\, our proposed approach to public and stakeholder engagement\, grant timeline\, future funding opportunities\, and other grant deliverables.

SUMMARY:How Building Codes Facilitate Resilient Communities
DESCRIPTION:With the growing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events\, understanding the resilience benefits of building codes is more important than ever. By improving the energy efficiency of buildings\, energy codes help enhance occupant safety comfort and reduce energy costs\, use\, and emissions. In addition\, they contribute to individual and community resilience by improving grid reliability\, and in the event of a power outage\, enhancing passive survivability in buildings\, thereby keeping occupants safer for longer. In this webinar\, presenters will explore research findings from a recent DOE report and federal\, state\, and local activities related to the resilience benefits of building codes and energy efficiency. \nContinuing education credits (AIA and ICC) will be offered for most of the live events. Instructions for requesting certificates of completion will be provided during each webinar.

SUMMARY:Buildings Hub Live: Workforce Development and Contractor Training
DESCRIPTION:Atlas Public Policy is excited to host our tenth episode of “Buildings Hub Live\,” where we spotlight the changemakers and technologies leading the charge to electrify our built environment. Join us on Tuesday\, September 19 at 1:00 PM ET as we sit down with Mary MacPherson from the Department of Energy\, Harley Stokes from the BlueGreen Alliance\, and John Doherty from the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades\, for a discussion on workforce development and contractor training in building decarbonization. \nDeveloping a skilled\, qualified workforce is essential to scaling building electrification around the country. Contractors serve as the key interlocuters with potential adopters as they decide what to install and provide important information on available technologies\, incentives\, benefits\, and costs. But do we currently have the workforce necessary to achieve our building decarbonization goals\, and if not\, what programs and initiatives exist to change that? RSVP today to find out!

SUMMARY:Buildings Hub Live: Building Decarbonization in the Midwest
DESCRIPTION:As of 2020\, only 20 percent of households in the Midwest used electricity for primary space heating\, and it is the region most dependent on piped gas and propane for home heating. Likewise\, only 14 percent of regional households are all-electric\, and just about 5 percent of homes report having a primary heat pump. \nWhat opportunities exist to decarbonize and electrify the Midwest and facilitate efficiency gains across the region. Which states are leading the charge to electrify the built environment\, and what should we expect from policymakers across region going forward? How might the injection of federal climate funding turn the tide and move the needle on Midwest electrification? Join Atlas Policy Analyst Zack Strauss\, Molly Graham from the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance\, and Dr. Missy Stults from the City of Ann Arbor\, Michigan to find out!
