SUMMARY:Reducing Energy Costs for Small Wastewater Treatment Plants
DESCRIPTION:Small wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) face increasing pressure from rising electricity costs\, aging infrastructure\, and more stringent treatment requirements. Energy is often one of the largest operating expenses for small systems. This webinar will explore practical opportunities to reduce costs through energy efficiency improvements\, operational optimization\, and renewable energy solutions such as solar power. \nParticipants will learn how energy is used in wastewater treatment facilities\, common sources of energy inefficiency\, and strategies to reduce energy consumption while maintaining treatment performance. The webinar will highlight low-cost operational improvements\, high-efficiency equipment upgrades\, and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems that can help lower utility expenses and improve long-term resilience. \nPresenter: Danish Kumar\, Program Manager\, University of Maryland Environmental Finance Center

SUMMARY:Ground Source Technology in Urban Buildings
DESCRIPTION:This CARD webinar will review a field study conducted by Michael’s Energy to evaluate the performance\, cost\, and applicability of Darcy Solutions’ vertically oriented borehole geothermal system for urban commercial building retrofit applications that lack space for traditional geothermal well fields. \nThis ground-source heat pump (GSHP) technology is designed to address the major barriers associated with traditional geothermal systems in dense urban environments\, including large land requirements and high installation complexity. \nAttend to learn more about evaluation methodology and findings at two commercial demonstration sites in Minnesota\, and considerations and recommendations for applicability for commercial buildings in Minnesota.

SUMMARY:How States Are Tackling the Challenges of Managing Federal Funds
DESCRIPTION:Join the States Energizing Communities Collaborative for a discussion with experts from the Pew Charitable Trusts on “How States Are Tackling the Challenges of Managing Federal Funds” (https://www.pew.org/en/research-and-analysis/reports/2026/05/how-states-are-tackling-the-challenges-of-managing-federal-funds). The conversation will focus on ways states can help local governments that lack resources to manage federal grants\, including examples from Hawaii\, Kansas\, Kentucky\, Massachusetts\, Kansas\, North Carolina\, Ohio\, Utah\, and Wyoming. \nThis virtual collaborative meeting will take place on July 15 at 3 p.m. ET. Please contact Catherine Kemp (ckemp@gpisd.net) or Melissa Cheatham (melissa@s2strategies.org) with questions.

SUMMARY:Polling 301: Maximizing Campaign Impact with Public Opinion Research
DESCRIPTION:Winning climate advocacy campaigns requires understanding the public to make strategic\, data-driven campaign decisions and capture the public narrative. This training is for you if you understand the basics of public opinion research\, but want more concrete guidance on how to work with public opinion researchers to inform your campaigns and communications. \nJoin the Yale Program for Climate Change Communication\, the Climate Advocacy Lab\, and the Environmental Polling Consortium for an interactive webinar that will guide participants through polling methodology and best practices. This online training will: \n-Demonstrate how polling works as a movement tool; \n-Demonstrate how to understand your audience; \n-Explain different types of research tools and how to execute research through vendors; and \n-Provide space for participants to write their own survey questions and collect feedback. \nThis is a 1 ½ -hour webinar with interactive elements. \n

SUMMARY:Strategic Decarbonization for Large Commercial Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an essential deep dive into the future of Minnesota’s built environment. Achieving Minnesota’s 2050 net-zero goals is an urgent priority\, but for the commercial sector\, it remains a complex\, long-term challenge. Moving beyond simple\, measure-by-measure efficiency improvements\, this webinar explores the shift toward integrated\, strategic planning that aligns technical decarbonization solutions with financial and operational realities. \nWhile some buildings can transition with limited intervention\, the majority of Minnesota’s commercial stock falls into the moderate-to-difficult-to-decarbonize category. These buildings require coordinated planning\, specific sequencing\, and deep stakeholder engagement to succeed. \n What You Will Learn: This webinar will unpack the “needs” and “how-tos” of strategic decarbonization based on four primary research areas: \n\nStakeholder Engagement: Understanding how owners\, facility operators\, and program managers perceive the hurdles and opportunities in the field.\nMarket Characterization: Identifying which building segments in Minnesota require strategic approaches and determining their specific technical needs.\nBest Practices: Strategies and tools to guide technical and capital planning to meet state emissions goals.\nA New Tool Kit: A preview of resources designed for utilities and policymakers to achieve ECO program energy savings and statewide GHG reduction goals.\n\nEquip yourself with the insights needed to turn decarbonization goals into actionable reality.
