SUMMARY:Ready\, Set\, Scale: Scaling Energy Coaching: Implementor Insights
DESCRIPTION:One-on-one energy coaching is becoming a powerful\, low-cost tool for municipalities and community groups to help residents navigate energy efficiency upgrades and decarbonization. Homeowners exploring heating and cooling systems often become overwhelmed with unfamiliar terminology and conflicting information that slows adoption and stalls climate progress.\n\nEnergy coaches -also known as heat pump coaches\, decarb coaches\, or energy advisors -are community members who provide unbiased\, neighbor-to-neighbor guidance. They help residents understand how heat pumps work\, compare technology options\, identify weatherization needs\, and prepare for conversations with installers. Coaches also connect residents with incentives and programs they may not be aware of. As one program in York\, Maine notes\, residents consistently express relief at having an informed neighbor to talk with rather than feeling like they are being sold something.”\n\nWe will explore how community leadership and peer support can accelerate home electrification and increase heat pump adoption\, with a focus on what it looks like to scale these efforts in real communities. The webinar will draw on discussions with program implementors to show what it takes to launch and grow an energy coaching program\, how coaches build resident confidence\, and why this model offers an effective\, affordable path toward meeting local climate goals and improving resident comfort.

SUMMARY:Tracking American Attitudes on Gas and Electrification
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Wednesday\, March 18th at 12 pm PT/ 3 pm ET to hear the latest data on American attitudes on gas\, including electrification policy\, methane regulation\, and more. This new poll from the Gas Leaks Project builds on six years of Climate Nexus data tracking public approval of various energy sources and policies\, and gives us critical guidance on how to shape climate campaigns during challenging political times. The presentation of this annual December survey will be followed by a moderated panel discussion and audience Q&A. \nModerator James Hadgis\, Executive Director of the Light Hill Collaborative and the Gas Leaks Project\, will be joined by Andrea Everett of Embold Research\, Brady Seals of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability\, Marija Verner of the Yale Program on Climate Change Communications\, and Katherine Nadeau of Environmental Advocates New York to dig into the results and what they mean for the climate community and the movement for cleaner buildings and energy.

SUMMARY:Assessing Local Building Performance Standards
DESCRIPTION:The buildings sector poses a significant climate challenge for local governments across the country. Energy use in buildings contributes one third of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the United States and represents as much as seventy percent of total GHG emissions in some cities. Building Performance Standards (BPS) are a tool that local governments have been deploying to reduce GHG emissions and promote energy efficiency in buildings. Some local BPS programs require buildings to reduce their energy intensity\, while others mandate that buildings lower GHG emissions or intensity. BPS laws are some of the most innovative measures that local governments have taken to mitigate their communities’ contributions to global climate change. \nIn a new report\, New York University’s Guarini Center on Environmental\, Energy and Land Use Law and Marron Institute of Urban Management provide a retrospective analysis of the implementation of local BPS laws using qualitative and quantitative methods. The report is the most comprehensive analysis of BPS implementation to date. \nThe report reveals a complex story of challenge and innovation\, highlighting the ways that local governments have worked closely with building owners and residents to overcome the difficulties of developing these data-intensive regulatory programs. \nPANELISTS: \n\nConstantine Kontokosta\, Professor of Urban Science and Planning\nand Director\, Civic Analytics Program\, NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management\nand Director\, Urban Intelligence Lab\, NYU Center for Urban Science & Progress\nClaudia Diezmartínez\, Policy and Equity Advisor\, City of Boston Environment Department\nSharon Jaye\, Building Performance Policy Manager\, Office of Climate Action\, Sustainability and Resiliency\, City and County of Denver\, CO\nSadie McKeown\, President\, Community Preservation Corporation\n\nMODERATORS: Christine Billy and Nathaniel Mattison\, Guarini Center on Environmental\, Energy and Land Use Law\, NYU School of Law
